2026/2027 Academic Year: TAF Expands Support for Girls Across Kono District
Empowering Children, Building the Future
The Tamba Abdulai Foundation (TAF) is pleased to share highlights from its 2026/2027 Academic Year Programme, an initiative dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for vulnerable children, particularly girls, while improving the environments in which they learn.
During the reporting period, TAF supported 90 girls across Kono District with essential educational assistance designed to reduce financial barriers, promote school attendance, and help girls remain in school and achieve their academic potential.
Supporting 90 Girls through Education
As part of the 2026/2027 academic year programme, TAF provided a comprehensive package of educational support, including:
⢠School-related administrative and educational charges
⢠Two sets of school uniforms
⢠Two pairs of shoes
⢠School bags
⢠Notebooks, pens, pencils, and other learning materials
⢠Portable solar lights for girls living in areas without reliable electricity
⢠Additional livelihood and accommodation support for selected beneficiaries
These interventions address some of the practical challenges that prevent vulnerable girls from attending school consistently and participating fully in learning.
Scholarship Distribution Ceremony
On 12 September 2026, TAF held its 2026/2027 Scholarship Distribution Ceremony at GTI Dorma Campus in Koidu City.
The event brought together beneficiaries and their families, school representatives, government and community stakeholders, partners, volunteers, and supporters.
Beyond the distribution of educational materials, the ceremony provided an opportunity to reaffirm TAFâs commitment to girlsâ education. Beneficiaries and parents were encouraged to prioritize regular school attendance, academic effort, discipline, and continued engagement with education.
Investing in WASH and Girlsâ Dignity
Access to education goes beyond school fees and learning materials. Children also need safe, clean, and dignified environments in which to learn.
As part of the 2026/2027 programme, TAF commissioned a four-room toilet facility at Islamic Senior Secondary School, Koidu. The facility is intended to improve sanitation, privacy, and dignity for students, particularly girls, while contributing to a healthier and more supportive school environment.
This investment reflects TAFâs commitment to addressing the broader barriers that affect children's education, well-being, and participation in school.
Improving the Learning Environment
TAF also continued investing in school infrastructure through the provision of school furniture.
Appropriate school furniture helps create safer and more comfortable learning spaces, enabling students to participate more effectively in classroom activities. By supporting improvements in school infrastructure, TAF seeks to complement its scholarship programme and contribute to better learning conditions for children.
Preparing Girls for the Digital Future
Recognizing the growing importance of technology in education and employment, TAF commenced a Digital and Emerging Technology Skills Programme for school-going girls in Koidu City.
The programme is designed to complement formal education with practical digital skills, helping participants strengthen their academic capabilities, improve digital literacy, and prepare for future educational and career opportunities.
Through this initiative, TAF aims to equip girls with relevant skills and greater confidence to participate in an increasingly digital world.
Building on the Results of 2025/2026
The 2026/2027 programme builds on the progress recorded during the previous academic year, when TAF supported 80 girls.
According to TAFâs annual donor impact report, the programme recorded the following results for the 2025/2026 academic year:
Indicator Result
Girls supported 80
School retention rate 100%
Pass rate 99%
Average academic performance 93%
Average attendance rate 97%
Girls achieving first position 43
Girls achieving second position 27
National Primary School Examination (NPSE) candidates 14
Average class position 4th
All 14 supported girls who sat the NPSE achieved aggregate scores above 290, according to the same report.
These results provide an encouraging foundation for TAFâs continued investment in girlsâ education. By expanding support to 90 girls in the 2026/2027 academic year, the Foundation aims to build on this progress and reach more vulnerable children across Kono District.
Partnerships That Make the Work Possible
TAFâs work is made possible through the commitment and collaboration of donors, schools, parents, community leaders, volunteers, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
The Foundation extends special appreciation to Upgrade for Africa, Les Pastras, and the U.S. Department of State YES Alumni Grant, alongside the schools, families, volunteers, and community stakeholders whose contributions continue to support its mission.
These partnerships demonstrate the importance of collective action in expanding educational opportunities and strengthening communities.
Our Commitment Continues
Supporting a girl in school means more than providing school materials. It means helping create the conditions that allow her to remain in school, learn with dignity, develop confidence, and prepare for a brighter future.
Throughout the 2026/2027 academic year, TAF will continue monitoring the progress of the 90 supported girls by tracking attendance and academic performance, supporting digital skills development, engaging parents and schools, and following up on the use and maintenance of the infrastructure provided.
Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize her potential.
âWhen a girl goes to school, her whole community rises.â
The Tamba Abdulai Foundation remains committed to Empowering Children, Building the Future.
