Who We Are

The Tamba Abdulai Foundation (TAF) is a community based organization (CBO) founded in 2024 by Tamba Abdulai, a youth leader and alumnus of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program.
After a transformative year of studying in the United States, Tamba returned to Sierra Leone inspired by the power of education. Seeing how poverty, early marriage, and cultural barriers kept many children—especially girls—out of school, he decided to act.
TAF was born out of his vision for a Sierra Leone where every child has the tools, opportunities, and dignity to reach their full potential.

Our Core Values

Equity: Every child deserves equal opportunity.
Integrity: We are transparent and accountable
Compassion: We serve with empathy and respect.
Community-Led Change: We work with communities, not for them.
Sustainability: We focus on long-term impact.
Empowerment: We equip young people to lead.

OUR RECENT ACHIVEMENTS

2024

The Tamba Abdulai Foundation, with support from Upgrade for Africa, Les Pastras , and other individuals, has helped 48 young girls in Kono district go to school for the 2024/2025 academic year. These girls come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds where financial challenges could impede their education.

Our support includes school uniforms, shoes, backpacks, notebooks, pens, and portable solar lights to aid studying at home etc. We also conducted training for over rural parents to raise awareness about girls’ education and the new Sierra Leonean law banning early marriage.

Additionally, we donated 30 school benches and desks to K.D.E.C. Primary School in Gbukuma and provided the the school with some stationery. We plan to renovate the school’s hand pump, which has been out of service for over a year, to improve the learning environment.
Our goal is to increase school enrollment for girls and challenge traditional views on women’s roles.

2021

In 2021, the Tamba Abdulai Foundation, with support from the YES Alumni Grant funded by the U.S. Department of State, trained 75 young people in Kono District on basic computer literacy. The training was conducted in Kono District from July to November 2021.

The goal of this program was to ensure that youths become computer literate in line with global technological trends, while also strengthening their chances in the job market.

During the training, participants were introduced to:

Microsoft Windows – understanding the basics of operating a computer.

MS Word – creating, editing, and formatting documents.

MS Excel – using spreadsheets for data entry, organization, and basic analysis.

MS PowerPoint – designing and presenting slideshows for meetings and academic purposes.

Introduction to the Internet – learning how to browse safely, use email, and access online opportunities.

By the end of the program, youths had developed practical computer skills that not only prepared them for job opportunities but also empowered them to compete in an increasingly digital world. This initiative marked a key step in bridging the digital divide in Kono and creating pathways for young people to succeed in education, business, and employment.

Why Girls’ Education Matters

Why Girls’ Education Matters
When a girl goes to school, her entire community benefits. She is more likely to earn a better income, delay marriage, protect her health, and raise educated children. Education breaks cycles of poverty and creates lasting change
